Beautiful handwoven cotton silk Ilkal Bordered saree. Ilkal saree takes its name from the town of Ilkal in the Bagalkot of Karnataka state, India.  Ilkal sarees are woven using cotton warp on the body and art silk warp for border and art silk warp for pallu portion of the saree. About 20000 people in the town of Ilkal are engaged in saree-weaving. In a Ilkal saree, the body wrap and the pallu wrap are weaved separately. The border portion of warp is prepared as like the pallu warp in art silk. The color used for pallu and on border will be one and the same. The pallu threads and body threads are joined in loop technique. These sarees are weaved on the pit loom. Weaving of Ilkal sarees is mostly an indoor activity. It is essentially a household enterprise involving active participation of female members. To weave one saree with the help of the handloom, it takes about 7 days. We can weave it with the help of the power loom also. Ilkal traditional sarees are produced mainly on pit looms with the combination of three types of different yarns namely Silk x Silk, Silk x Cotton, Art silk x Cotton. Ilkal Sarees like the Kunbi Sarees, the traditional sarees of goa have a lot of similarity in design and borders, and weaving styles. The checkered patterns used in the traditional adivasi/tribal woven kunbi and ilkal sarees are almost the same. Easy to maintain these sarees do not require frequent starching and drape like a dream. This fine textured, light, airy handloom saree is a connoisseur's delight. This saree is comfortable yet classy.  The colour of this saree gives it a fashionable yet elegant and different look. This saree is a simple yet a classic piece. Slight difference in color might be possible due to photographic lighting. Each piece is unconventional and a sheer fascination for every women.  Disclaimer: Machine Wash preferable, or handwash in cold water.
