Punti a Giorno (alternately titled Decorative Hemstitch) is volume 4 of Giuliana Buonpadre's collection of ten exquisite books devoted to forms of traditional Italian needlework.
The focus of this volume is drawn thread embroidery, where the stitcher withdraws threads from the fabric and then works over the remaining threads with various ornamental patterns. Drawn threads, hemstitching, needle weaving, wrapped stitches, and knotting all work together to create the intricate lacy patterns of drawn thread work.
These techniques can be combined with many other types of embroidery, to bring extra elements of transparency and laciness to the finished items.
The techniques covered in this book will help the stitcher build confidence for other techniques, like reticello in its simple and advanced forms, or whitework, cutwork, Hardanger, and other needle laces.
Through diagrams, explanations, and photos, the embroiderer will build a repertoire of drawn thread techniques and patterns to use in all kinds of embroidery applications.
