Four legged bronze kohl pot, ancient form with rich dark patina, especially fine with bird finials on the four legs, twisted incised lines on neck, and vertical faceted lines on body of pot, with feet that turn out slightly. Measures 4 1/2" high, 3 3/4" wide. Condition shows wear to bronze, and to layers of patina, some verdigris, one foot may have been shortened a bit. Wobbles a bit as all feet and legs are slightly different. These kohl pots are found from the Middle East to India and into mainland Asia, and have been used by many cultures for the storage of kohl, the eye cosmetic. From Bactrian and Luristan cultures the same form has been found, and they occur in varying styles, from the most simple and basic, to those with more ornamentation, like this one. Some have ornamental bells attached to the body. This pot is quite ancient, from the build up of bronze patina, some bits of verdigris, and the amount of wear from being handled for centuries. Color varies from almost black to bronze/brown, with light bronze showing on ends where handled often. Please see all photos for details and email any questions. Shipping via USPS or Fedex with tracking and insurance. Shipping delays may occur.
