With funding from the Australian Government, the Australian Association of Mathematics Teachers Inc. has established this four year project to develop an evidence base of practices that improve Indigenous students learning in mathematics and numeracy. Eight clusters of schools have been established in metropolitan and regional locations around the country. Around 40 Government, Catholic and independent primary and secondary schools will be involved.Make it count will foster and grow strong partnerships between schools, their communities and experts in mathematics and Indigenous education in universities and elsewhere to develop sustainable, whole-school practices around community engagement, curriculum, pedagogy and educators professional learning that result in significantly improved achievement in mathematics and numeracy by Indigenous young people. As the work in the schools matures, and the evidence of success grows, the school communities parents, teachers and staff, principals will be a resource for others wanting to help their Indigenous students better reach their potential in mathematics and numeracy.
