I am so in love with this piece— in a lifetime of collecting vintage, this is one of the coolest and most exciting pieces I have ever found. Made in Switzerland or Germany in the early 20th century, this piece is over one hundred years old yet feels as relevant as ever. Vivienne Westwood, whose corsets are so highly sought-after, draws inspiration from antique bodices like this. It's constructed from the finest black silk velvet, and features what is known as a Van Dyke peplum (in the back) with lace trim. The decorative silver metal pieces, but the actual closure is hidden hooks/eyes down the front. The straps are adjustable to two different lengths: shorter, this can bee worn as a bodice as shown, and with the straps adjusted longer, it can be layered over a blouse and worn as an underbust corset. Measurements: There are two lengths the straps can be fastened at: the shorter one allows it to be worn over the bust as a corset and the longer option places it UNDER the bust, so you would layer it over a blouse. As a corset (over the chest) this will best fit an XS-S, but if you make the straps longer and wear it under the chest (like an under bust corset) it will accomodate a slightly larger size. The bust=32.5, BUT as a corset it's meant to be tighter than usual and suck the body in, and the waist= about 26. Length is adjustable from 14.5-20.5. The Fortuny-pleated skirt and pendant pictured are also available. Great antique condition for its age. It is incredible rare to find pieces like this in wearable condition at all. The lace trim at the back has some wear (which is not noticeable) and there were at one point 2 additional metal pieces at the bottom, but I actually find it more wearable without them (you can tuck it in, etc.) so that is probably why they were removed by the previous owner. One of those metal pieces will be included which you can use as you wish.
