The mid-1800s favored soft, sloping shoulders mirrored by large, bell-shaped skirts, creating the illusion of a small waist, and our 1860s gored corset is the perfect foundation for all crinoline-era fashions. Compared to our 1880s Victorian corset, it has a lower bust height to achieve the fashionable low, wide shape, and a higher hip line to best suit a full-skirted silhouette.  With bias-cut front panels, in addition to bust and hip gores, this corset nips in the waist, smooths the hips and torso, and supports the bust without creating a dramatic push-up effect. It hits around mid-bust, and this more natural bustline is historically appropriate. A drawstring at the top helps shape the bust edge.
